Our Summer of Service program runs through July and August and is specifically designed for students ages 13 - 25.
Summer of Service is the perfect opportunity for youth to get involved, give back, and grow. Open to students aged 13-25, the program helps young people learn more about their community while gaining meaningful volunteer experience. Participants build real-world skills, grow their confidence, boost their resume, and most importantly, make a difference in the lives of others. Whether it's lending a hand at local events, supporting community programs, or stepping up to lead small projects, every hour spent is an hour invested in creating a stronger, more caring community. It’s a summer of purpose, connection, and personal growth.
HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS
Our Summer of Service staff connect with various organizations who provide opportunities for volunteer work on summer projects. A schedule is then created with both morning and afternoon shifts, each consisting of 2-3 hours.
Participants attend the locations as a group with United Way staff. Summer of Service staff are there to provide guidance and mentorship. Volunteer hours are tracked and submitted for high school volunteer credit.
The volunteer schedule is flexible and participants can attend as many locations as they like. As the summer progresses, more volunteer opportunities generally become available and are added to the schedule. Schedules go out to the students at the beginning of each week. We know it’s summer time and students may have family trips or events planned, so our program allows them to join us when they’re available.
Specific times and dates will be shared with students when they have submitted their registration form.
